Association for Women with Disabilities started its journey in the year 2002 at Village Subhi, of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal where we work in 5 blocks of the district. Our urban unit started in the year 2007 and is located at Phoolbagan, Kolkata. The urban unit is working in 14 wards of three major slums of Kolkata. Our approach of working with disabled girls/women is purely right-based with the focus on promoting and supporting them to gain control over their social, economic, political and material resources. We basically intend to create opportunity and build confidence in them to bring their ‘private dialogues’ into ‘public domain’.

Girls and women with disabilities are also a part of the society and should enjoy equal rights and opportunities like other members of the community.

Empowerment and mainstreaming of disabled girls/women through building their capacity to be self dependent and live a meaningful & quality life with self pride and dignity.

Our Goal
	Empowerment and mainstreaming of girls & women with disabilities
	Improving status of girls & women with disabilities through providing support for disability rehabilitation, education, skill training, micro-credit facilities and other need based supports.
	Train and educate disabled girls in leadership and advocacy to deal with the social barriers and fight to ensure equal rights and opportunities.
	Providing support to disabled girls & women to stand against violence and sexual abuse
	Organizing disabled girls & women in groups at different levels – gram panchayat to district level to create a united platform for sharing the oppressions and discriminations they face and voice for their rights.
	Creating awareness in the civil society to bring change in the attitude and realization of the needs and rights of the disabled girls & women.
	Advocacy, lobbying and networking with government officials and non-governmental organizations for inclusion of disability in the development policies, programs or schemes.
